Resin is a thin wearing layer, usually 15–18mm deep. It has no strength of its own. If the tarmac or concrete underneath was thin, poorly compacted or laid over soft clay, every movement in that base shows through the resin. Winchburgh's heavy clay soils and exposed position make freeze-thaw damage worse, which is why problems often appear after the second or third winter.
That is why Maybury Driveways does not install resin driveways at all. We only remove failed resin and replace it with block paving, monoblock or tarmac on a properly engineered base.

Cracking over a weak base
Many new-build resin driveways were laid straight over thin tarmac or concrete. When that base moves or cracks, the resin cracks with it — the surface can only ever be as good as what is underneath.
Loose stones and bald patches
If the resin-to-aggregate mix was wrong, or the resin cured in cold or damp weather, stones start to break free. Scraping car tyres on the turn quickly leave bald, patchy areas.
Discolouration and yellowing
Non-UV-stable resins darken and yellow in daylight. Oil drips, tyre marks and moss stain the open surface and are very difficult to lift.
Blocked pores and puddling
Resin-bound surfaces rely on open pores to drain. Silt, leaves and moss from Winchburgh's surrounding fields clog them, so water sits on top and freezes in winter.

Why block paving is the better choice for Winchburgh new builds
Block paving and monoblock suit Winchburgh's modern estates and are accepted by the developers. Unlike resin, individual blocks can be lifted and relaid if a service pipe needs work or a small area settles, so repairs are invisible. Permeable block paving drains straight through the joints, meeting West Lothian Council's SUDS requirements without extra soakaways.
